What cyan does on a T650

Cyan feeds almost every color this machine puts on paper, including the greens and purples that have no dedicated ink here. The 712 set is four inks — cyan, magenta, yellow and black — with the black offered in two sizes, 3ED70A at 38 ml and 3ED71A at 80 ml. No fifth ink exists in this range, so nothing can stand in for cyan: a cyan-low warning is a reorder signal, not something the printer mixes around.

29 ml in a single tank, 87 ml in a carton

This is the single-tank size, 29 ml. The same cyan ships three to a carton as 3ED77A: 87 ml in one order, which works out cheaper per milliliter than three of these singles and is the way most schools buy it. The ink is identical either way — the only difference is how many tanks arrive in the box.

3ED67A, 3ED68A, 3ED69A — which is which

The codes run consecutively and the color changes with them: 3ED68A is magenta and 3ED69A is yellow. Ten numbers further along, 3ED77A is this same cyan but three tanks rather than one — type it expecting a single cartridge and a carton arrives.

Genuine HP ink and the T650 printhead

Genuine HP ink helps protect the printhead, which on the T650 is a separate consumable you would rather not replace ahead of schedule. It carries its own part number and is ordered separately: the HP 713 DesignJet printhead.

The 712 range has one black in two sizes: 3ED70A at 38 ml and 3ED71A at 80 ml. Either works alongside this cyan; the 80 ml tank simply holds more.
