Description
Part 1XB09A is the 1-liter cyan in this range — one of the three process colors on the platform, and the highest-numbered of them.
Which printers take this part
Four machines accept it, all Z9⁺: the 24-in, the 44-in, the dr and the Pro. The quickest check is the model string on the front panel. If it reads Z9⁺, this range is yours; if it reads Z6, it is not, and the cyan to order is the 300 ml HP 746 part P2V80A, which is listed for both platforms. The machine-named sets for this platform are listed on the poster maker ink page.
What cyan does here
Cyan is a process color, not a specialty one: it goes down on nearly every sheet that leaves the machine, in blues and greens and in the neutral mixes behind ordinary text and photographs. That makes it the position that empties first on most school workloads, ahead of the chromatics, and the one worth ordering on a cycle rather than per project. The platform runs chromatic blue and chromatic green separately; those extend the set, they do not stand in for this one.
Size, and which cyan costs less per milliliter
This is the liter size. The same color for the same platform is also sold in the 300 ml HP 746 tank, part P2V80A, and per milliliter the liter is the cheaper of the two — the price shown above this description carries the current figure for each. Cyan is usually the position where the larger tank pays for itself fastest, because it is the one being consumed on almost every job.
Don’t order this by mistake
These numbers do not run in cyan-magenta-yellow order. 1XB07A is Magenta, 1XB08A is Yellow, and cyan is 1XB09A, the last of the three process numbers; 1XB10A onward are the chromatics and the blacks. Anyone assuming the sequence opens with cyan orders magenta. Match the color word printed on the tank rather than the position in the sequence, and check the range as well, because the 300 ml cyan for this machine is P2V80A in HP 746 and not a 776 number at all.

Questions schools ask about this cartridge
Can I raise a PO if this cartridge is not in stock?
Yes, and most schools do. Call 866-788-7900 for a lead time on 1XB09A first and we will confirm the date against the order.
Is there a smaller cyan for the same printer?
Yes: P2V80A, 300 ml of HP 746, which fits the Z9⁺ series as well as the Z6. Less per cartridge, more per milliliter, and a useful stopgap while a liter is on order.
Does chromatic blue do the same job as cyan?
No. Chromatic blue, 1XB04A, is a separate position widening the blues and violets. The printer still needs cyan loaded.
Why is cyan the last of the three numbers?
HP numbered by part, not by color order: 07 magenta, 08 yellow, 09 cyan. There is no pattern to infer, so read the number off the tank.
