Both Z platforms are named: the DesignJet Z6 24-in, Z6 44-in, Z6dr and Z6 Pro, and the Z9⁺ 24-in, Z9⁺ 44-in, Z9⁺dr and Z9⁺ Pro. Of the three 777-era upkeep parts, Q6715A is the one HP lists for both platforms — the 777 maintenance cartridge (3ED19A) and the 777 printhead (3EE09A) arrive with Z9⁺ listings only. The 746 printhead (P2V25A) spans the two as well. If your printer is a T-series machine, none of these applies.

What the kit is for

A head gets swapped when the panel flags a fault; the waste cartridge gets changed when it fills. This is the scheduled item of the three. HP lists it for routine upkeep, and doing it on time is what stops print-quality faults accumulating quietly. The printer raises the prompt itself, so nobody has to diarise it — but the business office should know it is coming, because at $315.00 it is the biggest non-ink line we list for either Z platform.

What $315.00 buys, and what to ask us first

Read the figure against the two 777 upkeep parts beside it — the waste cartridge (3ED19A) and the printhead (3EE09A), each of which carries its own price on its own page. What this kit has that neither of those does is a Z6 listing as well as a Z9⁺ one. A Z6 school weighing it against that Z9⁺-only cartridge is not comparing equivalents. Worth a call before the PO is drafted: the itemised contents, which we confirm against HP’s packing list rather than guess at here.

The other things in our catalog called a kit

That word does more work than it should. Q6715A is a DesignJet kit for Z-series poster printers. The Cleaning Swab Kit, PSFSK at $39.95, is fifty foam-tipped swabs for Flex Series printer cutters — another machine altogether and an eighth of the money. And 3ED19A, the 777 maintenance cartridge, is a single component and not a kit at all; on a Z9⁺ the two are separate lines on the same order, never alternatives to each other.

How the Z6 and Z9⁺ supply families fit together

Five HP families run across the two platforms. A Z6 draws HP 746 in 300-ml tanks or HP 775 in 500-ml tanks. A Z9⁺ draws HP 746 at 300 ml, HP 747 at 300 ml for its extension colors and gloss enhancer, or HP 776 in 1-liter tanks — its gloss enhancer, 1XB06A, is a 500-ml tank instead — with the 777 head and cartridge among its upkeep parts. Work from the family number printed on the tank in the machine, not the model badge: HP writes compatibility at series level, so one Z6 is listed identically for two different tank sizes.
