What Photo Black does here
Photo Black is the black for coated and glossy media, holding more shadow detail and a wider tonal range there than Matte Black manages. Which of the two blacks a job draws on follows the media it is printed on. That has an ordering consequence: a change of paper shows up weeks later as a change in which black drains first.
Don’t order this by mistake
Two numbers cause trouble. 1XB12A, the next number up, is Matte Black — a different ink for a different surface, and the one for uncoated and matte stock. And P2V82A is the photo black position for this same platform in a 300 ml HP 746 tank, so a number carried over from an older order can arrive as 300 ml when a liter was budgeted.
