Description
What this part is
Part A24VMA is 130 ml of genuine HP Cyan for the 738M run, printhead included. It is the smaller of the two cyan tanks HP offers these machines.
Which printers it fits, and which it does not
HP part number A24VMA — genuine HP 738M 130-ml Cyan, one cartridge. The models named against it are:
- HP DesignJet T870 / XT870
- HP DesignJet XT950 / XT950 MFP
A T850 or T850 MFP is not among them and takes the plain 738 cyan instead. The plain 738 cyan is a different code, 498N5A, and a cartridge without an integrated printhead. Its list overlaps this one on the T870 and XT870, so on those two machines the code printed on the tank you are removing is the only reliable guide.
If your printer was bought as a PSE package rather than by HP model number, call us and we will confirm the code before you order.
What the cyan channel does on this platform
We stock one cyan for this platform, with no light cyan alongside it, so there is no second cartridge to compensate when cyan runs low — blues and greens shift first and the whole poster follows. The useful consequence of HP putting the printhead inside the tank is that cyan-only symptoms and cyan running dry resolve to the same part number, which keeps the supply cupboard to one item per color.
Tank size and cost per milliliter
The 300 ml cyan for these printers, part 676M9A, works out roughly 17% cheaper per milliliter; this 130 ml tank keeps each individual line item smaller. Both are genuine HP 738M cyan with the same integrated-printhead design, so choosing between them is a budgeting decision rather than a print-quality one.
Do not order this one by mistake
A24VMA, A24VNA and A24VPA are cyan, magenta and yellow in that order, and A24VLA ahead of them is black — four codes separated by a single letter. Match the letter, not the color word, when the order goes through.

Questions schools ask about this cartridge
How do I tell A24VMA from A24VNA on the shelf?
By the letter before the A: M is cyan, N is magenta. The boxes are otherwise laid out the same way. It is worth writing the color on the shelf edge label when the delivery lands.
Does the small cyan print the same as the large one?
It is the same genuine HP cyan ink and the same integrated-printhead design. The only differences are the 130 ml volume and the higher cost per milliliter.
Will this cartridge fit an XT870?
Yes. HP lists the T870 and XT870 for the 738M range alongside the XT950 and XT950 MFP. T870 owners appear on both the 738 and 738M lists, so check the code on the tank you are replacing before you switch ranges.
How many posters will this print?
We cannot answer that honestly. HP has not published a figure to us for this part, so we are not going to print a poster count we would only be guessing at.
