Description
HP part F9J66A, a 130-milliliter Magenta cartridge in the genuine HP 728 range — the smaller of the two magenta sizes offered for this platform.
Which printer takes it
One machine takes it: the HP DesignJet T830 MFP. The T830 MFP is also the only machine in our genuine-HP range that takes a 728 cartridge, so a site running more than one wide-format printer should match the cartridge to the machine rather than to the building.
What Magenta does here
The 728 set runs four inks: cyan, magenta, yellow and matte black. Magenta carries the pinks and purples, the warmer half of a skin tone and a share of most browns and oranges, and in a four-ink set nothing else can stand in for it. At 130 ml it suits lighter print volumes and a cupboard spare.
Size and volume
Magenta comes two ways in the 728 range: this 130-ml F9J66A and the 300-ml F9K16A. Per milliliter the larger tank is about 17% cheaper, so the decision is a volume one — how quickly magenta empties in your building against how much ink you want sitting in a cupboard.
Don’t order this by mistake
The number you need is printed on the cartridge, not on the printer: the family number 728 and the volume, beside the color flag. Volume is the whole difference between F9J66A and F9K16A, and the two codes differ by only two characters in the middle — J6 against K1. Read the wrong digit and a 130-ml order arrives as a 300-ml one.

Sizes, part-used tanks and school purchasing
Will the 130-ml and the 300-ml magenta both fit the same printer?
Both are listed for the HP DesignJet T830 MFP, so either will seat. What you are choosing between is volume: 130 ml as F9J66A, 300 ml as F9K16A. A room that prints occasionally usually wants the smaller tank.
We have a part-used magenta in the machine. Will fitting a new one waste what is left?
You fit the new tank when the old one is spent, so nothing is thrown away. How much printing remains in a part-used cartridge is something only the machine’s own reading can tell you.
Are you set up for tax-exempt school purchasing?
Yes. Districts buy from us on purchase orders as a matter of course, and we hold TIPS contract #250802 if a cooperative route is preferred.
