HP 776 1-liter Gray DesignJet Ink Cartridge (1XB05A)

Part 1XB05A is the 1-liter gray cartridge for the HP DesignJet Z9+ series, the printer inside the PSE Education Print Center Pro 64.

Which poster printers take 1XB05A

1XB05A fits the HP DesignJet Z9+ 24-in, the Z9+ 44-in, the Z9+dr and the Z9+ Pro. If your school’s machine is an Education Print Center Pro 64, this is the gray for it. Check the model badge on the front of the printer, or call us with your serial number and we will confirm the part before you raise the PO.

What gray ink does

Genuine HP gray ink contributes to smooth tonal gradients and neutral shadow areas in printed output. Schools printing a lot of photography move this cartridge faster than schools printing flat graphics and type.

Cartridge size

This is the 1,000 ml tank. The gray for the same printers is also stocked as P2V86A, a 300 ml HP 747 cartridge listed for the same Z9+ machines, so a school that prints little monochrome work can buy the smaller tank instead. Current per-liter cost on each is shown on the two product pages; the 1-liter part is the lower per-liter cost of the two.

Don’t order this by mistake

1XB06A is the gloss enhancer, not a color, and it is a 500 ml part. P2V86A is the 300 ml HP 747 gray for the same printer. 1XB11A is the HP 776 photo black, a different cartridge with its own part number, not another way to buy gray. If you are shopping for a Z6, call 866-788-7900 before ordering and we will check the gray position against HP’s parts list for your model.

Questions schools ask about this cartridge

This shows out of stock. What now?

Call 866-788-7900 for a lead time on 1XB05A and we will confirm it against your purchase order. P2V86A, the 300 ml gray, fits the same printer meanwhile.

Can I run the printer without the gray cartridge?

We can’t tell you how the printer behaves with that position empty, and we won’t guess. Call 866-788-7900 and we will check it against HP’s documentation for your model.

Does our Z6 need a gray cartridge?

We cannot confirm the gray position on a Z6 from the data we hold, and we will not guess. Call 866-788-7900 before ordering and we will check your model against HP’s parts list.

Is gray the same as photo black?

No. They are separate parts: gray is 1XB05A, photo black is 1XB11A. Both fit the Z9+ series.
