What the gloss enhancer actually does

It is not ink in the sense the other nine parts are. This is a clear coating laid over printed areas to even out sheen and reduce the bronzing that can show on photo and graphic prints, mostly on glossy and satin stock. Going over the image rather than into it, it changes how a poster reads under corridor lighting without changing your colors.

Size, and why it is not a liter

The nine colors in this range are 1-liter tanks; the gloss enhancer is the one we stock at 500 ml, so a smaller cartridge that costs more per milliliter than the colors is no error rather than a discount. The comparison that matters is P2V87A, the 300 ml HP 747 gloss enhancer for the same printer: per milliliter, this 500 ml cartridge is the cheaper of the two. Don’t order this by mistake

This number sits between two 1-liter color tanks — 1XB05A is gray, 1XB07A is magenta — so a digit read one out delivers a color, at a liter, at a different price. The other trap is the word enhancer: P2V87A is also one, for the same printer, but 300 ml and part of HP 747.

Why is this 500 ml when the rest of the range is a liter?

500 ml is the size we stock this gloss enhancer in. It costs less than a liter of color because it holds less, not because it is discounted or mispriced.

Do we need it at all?

It matters most if you print on glossy or satin stock and want an even sheen across the sheet; on matte poster paper the effect is much less visible. Call 866-788-7900 and we will confirm what your Z9⁺ needs in the slot.

Will it change our colors?

It goes over the printed area rather than into it, so its job is the surface finish. Anything beyond that, such as measured gloss levels, is not something we hold data for.

Is there a gloss enhancer for our Z6?
