HP 728 300-ml Magenta DesignJet Ink Cartridge (F9K16A)

HP part F9K16A, the 300-milliliter Magenta in HP’s 728 range, supplied as a genuine HP cartridge. Magenta is one of the set’s three chromatic inks.

Which printer takes it

HP lists this cartridge for two machines, the HP DesignJet T830 MFP and the HP DesignJet T730. The model plate on the printer settles which you have; the family number on the tank you are replacing confirms it.

What Magenta does here

Magenta does more on a poster than its name suggests. With only cyan, magenta and yellow available, every purple, pink, orange and warm brown has magenta in it, and no fourth chromatic spreads that load — larger DesignJet families carry chromatic red, green and blue; the 728 set does not.

Size and cost per milliliter

The 300-ml tank is the lower cost per milliliter of the two 728 magenta sizes; the 130-ml F9J66A is the smaller commitment. Both prices are shown live on each product page.

How far does it go?

Yield depends on coverage. Our poster-yield guide explains how to estimate it for your own artwork.

Don’t order this by mistake

Magenta appears twice in this range: F9K16A here at 300 ml, F9J66A at 130 ml. Both end 6A, both are magenta, and only the characters between say which size arrives. The wider run misleads too — F9J65A, F9J66A and F9J67A are the 130-ml colors, but F9J68A is 300-ml Matte Black, and 130-ml Matte Black sits outside the run at 3WX25A.

F9K16A: purchasing questions answered

We have a DesignJet, but not a T830. Will this fit?

It may. HP lists the 728 range for the DesignJet T830 MFP and the DesignJet T730. If your model plate reads either of those, this is the right cartridge. If it reads another T-series number, call 866-788-7900 with the number and we will confirm the part before you raise the PO.

What happens if we order the wrong part?

Unopened supplies can go back within 30 days of delivery, with a 30% restocking fee where there is no exchange. Opened cartridges cannot be returned, which is why the number is worth confirming. The full terms are in our store policies.

Our purples are printing brown. Is it the magenta?

Often, yes. Every purple and pink on this platform is mixed from magenta, so a low tank shows up in those tones long before anything looks obviously pink. The magenta level reads out on the front panel.
