Description
Part 1XB04A is 1-liter chromatic blue — one of the specialty positions that exists on this platform and on no other printer we supply.
Which printers take this part
Chromatic blue is exclusive to the Z9⁺ here. Chromatic blue does not appear in the ink sets for our T650, T830, T850, T870 / XT870, XT950 or Z6 machines, which means this is a part you can only order correctly if you already know you are running the ten-part 776 set.
What Chromatic Blue does in this set
Chromatic blue helps the printer reproduce a wider range of blue and violet tones than standard cyan alone can achieve. It does not replace cyan, which stays loaded as 1XB09A and keeps doing the process-color work; the blue sits beside it. The practical read is that deep navy and violet work — school colors, uniform mock-ups, night-sky imagery — draws on this tank specifically.
Tank size
This color also comes as a 300 ml cartridge, part P2V85A. Same color, same printer, smaller tank — the larger tank is the lower cost per milliliter. Current prices for both are on their product pages.
Don’t order this by mistake
Chromatic blue is not cyan. Cyan is 1XB09A, a process color, and swapping one for the other leaves one position empty and another over-supplied. In the numbering, 1XB03A below is chromatic green and 1XB05A above is gray — all specialty colors, none interchangeable. The matching 300 ml part is P2V85A.

Questions schools ask about this cartridge
Is chromatic blue a replacement for cyan?
No. Cyan, 1XB09A, stays in the machine as a process color. Chromatic blue is an extra position widening the blue and violet range beyond what cyan reaches alone.
Our Z6 prints blue posters fine. Why does this printer need it?
The two platforms do not carry the same ink positions. A Z6 builds its blues from the process colors in its own, shorter ink set; the Z9⁺ set adds specialty positions on top of process cyan, magenta and yellow, and chromatic blue is one of them. It is an extra position on this machine rather than a part a Z6 is missing.
Is there a smaller chromatic blue?
Yes, P2V85A at 300 ml. Same color, same printer, smaller tank, higher cost per milliliter.
Can this go on a district purchase order?
Yes. District and school POs are our normal route. Call 866-788-7900 and we will quote the part number for your requisition.
