HP 712 29-ml Magenta DesignJet Ink Cartridge (3ED68A)

Which printers take this part

This part is confirmed for the HP DesignJet T650, 24-inch and 36-inch.

What magenta does on a T650

Magenta is one of three chromatic inks here, blended with cyan and yellow to build the color range on a finished poster. Color drift across a run and a magenta-low warning tend to arrive together. There is no light magenta in this range, so no other tank covers for it.

Size and value

Buying the same magenta three to a carton as 3ED78A gives you 87 ml and works out about 28% less per milliliter than three singles.

Don’t order this one by mistake

A digit either side of this code is a different color — 3ED67A cyan, 3ED69A yellow. The three-pack of this magenta is 3ED78A, and that is where orders go wrong: 3ED70A and 3ED71A also open with 3ED7 yet are black singles, not multipacks. Read the full code.

What Express schools ask before reordering

Colors are drifting part-way through a run — is magenta the cause?

It is the usual suspect. Drift across a run and a magenta-low warning on the front panel tend to show up together, so check the magenta level before changing media or profiles.

How do we check which magenta we ordered last time?

The code is printed on the tank and on the carton. 3ED68A is the single; 3ED78A is the pack of three.
