Fitment is narrow: the Z6 series, 24-in through Z6 Pro. In the PSE range that is the Education Studio 64 Pro. Nothing in HP’s T-series appears on the list for 1XB18A, nor does the Z9⁺ range, which HP supplies from its own 776 parts.

What magenta does in the 775 set

Magenta is the second process ink, and the shape of the set is worth a sentence. The 775 range for this machine runs six colors with one magenta — no light magenta; the sixth color here is chromatic red. The Z9⁺ range runs wider, adding gray, chromatic blue and chromatic green, plus a gloss enhancer that is a clear coat rather than a color. None of those four has an HP 775 part, which is why a Studio 64 Pro runs six bays.

Size and cost per milliliter

Five hundred milliliters at $272.95 is $546 a liter. The Z6 series also takes HP’s 746 magenta in 300 ml — part P2V78A, $198.95, or $663 a liter. That is a different HP supply range, not a smaller 1XB18A, but on a Z6 it is the other way to buy magenta, and it costs 21% more per milliliter. The 500-ml tank is the cheaper route by 18%.

Don’t order this by mistake

The 1-liter magenta is 1XB07A, eleven numbers below this one, and 1XB08A is yellow. Neither fits a Z6. The catch is not only the platform: color order differs between the two runs. Here 17, 18 and 19 are cyan, magenta and yellow; the 1-liter run opens 07 magenta, 08 yellow, 09 cyan. A number copied off an old invoice will not translate to this shelf.

How many cartridges does a Studio 64 Pro take?

Six — one per color — if you replace them all at once. Most schools change a single bay as the front panel calls for it, which is why each color has its own part number.

Is this the same ink as the 1-liter cartridges?

Same color name, different HP range. The 1-liter tanks are 776 parts, which HP lists for the Z9⁺ (Z9+) series. We will not call them interchangeable, because HP’s compatibility list does not.
