What matte black does on a school poster

Matte black is HP’s black for uncoated and matte media, and for the heavy text and large dark areas school posters are full of. A school printing regularly on matte paper or banner stock works through this tank steadily. Note that the 775 range carries two blacks, a photo black and this matte black, so the color word on the label matters as much as the range number when you order.

Size and cost per milliliter

Per milliliter, this 500-ml tank costs less than the 300-ml 746 matte black that the same Z6 series also takes, and the six-cartridge set on our Studio 64 Pro ink page costs less per milliliter again than six single tanks bought one at a time. Two other parts are one keystroke away. 1XB21A is the photo black in this same 775 range — same size, same shelf, different job. 1XB12A is a 1-liter matte black from the 776 range, which HP lists for the Z9⁺ (Z9+) series rather than the Z6. Match both the number and the color word on the tank you pulled out.

If the tank you are replacing is marked 775, yes – the Z6-series platform inside the Studio 64 Pro takes the 775 range. If the tank is marked 746, you want P2V83A instead.
