Description
HP part P2V87A is the 747 Gloss Enhancer — a 300-milliliter genuine HP cartridge that lays down no color of its own but has a slot of its own in the Z9+ ink bay.
Where this cartridge belongs
Listed for the Z9+ series only: 24-in, 44-in, Z9+dr and Z9+ Pro. A Z6 will not take it, because the whole 747 range is a Z9+ range.
A cartridge that prints no color
A gloss enhancer is a clear overcoat the printer lays over areas it has printed, to even out sheen across a sheet. HP describes this cartridge as reducing the bronzing and gloss differential that shows on photo and display work printed on glossy or satin media — bronzing being the metallic cast dark, heavily inked areas take on. On matte or uncoated stock there is nothing to even out, so it is a finish ink for coated media only.
If you go through gloss enhancer quickly
The same clear coating is made in a larger genuine HP tank for the same Z9+ machines: part 1XB06A, from the 776 range. That page carries its current size, price and availability.
Two things to separate before ordering
First, this is not a color: it is P2V87A at the end of the 747 run, and P2V84A, P2V85A and P2V86A ahead of it are Chromatic Green, Chromatic Blue and Gray. Second, it will not fix a color problem — an enhancer changes finish, not hue. The 746 cartridges are the same 300-ml size and also seat in a Z9+, but that range spans the Z6 and holds six colors, no enhancer.

Questions schools ask about this part
Why is the larger gloss enhancer 500 ml when the rest of that range is a liter?
Because that is how HP supplies it. Part 1XB06A is a 500-ml tank while the other 776 cartridges are liters. Not a data-entry error on our side.
Is this a laminate we apply after printing?
No. It is an ink the printer lays down during the print itself, from its own slot in the bay. Nothing to apply afterwards, nothing to load on a separate pass.
Our posters go out on matte paper. Do we need it?
On matte and uncoated stock there is no sheen variation to correct, so it will not change what you see. If your media mix is part glossy and part matte and you are unsure, call 866-788-7900.
